What are your artwork guidelines for bleed and safe margins?

What are your artwork guidelines for bleed and safe margins?

  • If you are handy at creating artwork and are comfortable adding 3mm bleed and crop marks then that is great.
  • However it does depend on the design, especially the background. For example if the background is block/ solid colour, then adding bleed retrospectively is an easier process.
  • If all this sounds difficult and technical then don’t worry, our design team will take care of this for you (this will incur an additional charge).
  • All that we request is that you keep all the important elements of your design at least 5mm away from the edge of your artwork (our designers call this our “safe margin”).
  • Although we use state-of-the-art equipment, some movement is part of all print processes. If vital elements of your design are placed too close to the edge of the paper, not only will it look unprofessional, but there’s a chance they may get trimmed off.
  • Simply place all of your vital elements of your design inside the 5mm safe margin. That doesn’t mean you can’t extend a background image or colour to the very edge of your bleed. However, please don’t put your contact details along the very edge of the sheet. We don’t want to see your phone number end up on our cutting room floor.
